The Hero who flew too close to the Sun

"There was once a hero
who made wings out of wax
so that he could fly.
But when he reached too close to the sun,
his wings melted
and he crashed to earth."

                     -Fullmetal Alchemist, Volume 1

I was very surprised when I read these lines in the manga because I recognized the story of Icarus from Greek mythology. His father and he made wings by gluing together feathers using wax in order to escape the island of Crete. Icarus' father warned him not fly too close to the sun but he was so excited that he didn't pay any attention to him.
